How to decoupage a surface

Print your Image

Make sure your image is mirrored before you print it, because we will put the printed side down on the wood. Use regular printer paper. You want the paper to be thin (~20lb. paper) so that it’s easy to rub off once it has adhered to the wood.

Our images will come printed on the appropriate paper, high quality ink for image transfers and mirrored. This way you always get excellent results.

Adding your image

Paint a medium layer of Mod Podge on the wood until it’s completely covered. Not too light and not too thick.

Then press the photo down on top of the Mod Podge, using a credit card or other object to press out any air bubbles. If there are any air bubbles, then the photo won’t adhere to the wood there.

Let the Mod Podge dry anywhere from 24 hours to 72 hours. The longer you can leave it to dry, the better the final project will turn out.

Removing Paper

Wet a wash cloth or paper towel and wring out the excess water. It shouldn’t be dripping with water, but definitely wet enough to wet the paper. I put the wet cloth on the image and let it sit for about 5 min.

Then start gently rubbing to remove the paper, a little at a time . If the paper is dry, just re wet it a little. Do this until you see your image and all the paper is rubbed off.

If you start to rub off a part of the image, be more careful and add more water. We are going for the rustic vintage look, so it usually works out they way you want.
